My passion for beauty, especially in the artistry field, has been consistent since I was a kid. And attending AMA was the cherry on top. It never crossed my mind that I could make a career out of my passion, I always felt discouraged when it came to pursing my dreams in this field. After being unemployed from the corporate world, I took some time to figure myself out and took a chance! I didn't have to do much research. I knew what I wanted. I wanted a make up school where I would learn from the best and had a real NYC/LA studio feel. I literally looked up make up schools and I don't know what made me type "Hoboken" in the search engine because I was not informed about any locations near me, nor had any idea where to begin my search. As soon as my search directed me to AMA, I was determined this academy was legit and my search was completed. From the staff, to the curriculum, the location and everything in between I believe it's worth every single penny (this coming from someone who paid with their own money and even had to put some on a credit card because I extended programs!) . They take the time out of their personal lives to stay late with anybody who wants to without blinking an eye, whether it's for artistry, help with your makeup resume, or literally just to hang out (which everyone does) and this is why we are not just a class that graduated from a makeup school, we are an AMA Family. AMA has offered every single student in my class numerous opportunities to get the chance to work charity events, such as glamming up the staff of VUE Magazine or a Day of Beauty for elderly people. Whether the students take those experiences or not is completely up to them and many of us have gone on and continue to go on multiple events. My first event I was too nervous to raise my hand when they asked who was interested in going and after class the teachers pulled me aside and gave me the confidence I needed to and I am forever grateful for them. I've had a life long passion for makeup since I was a little girl, yet I never believed in myself enough to pursue it as a career. It wasn't until I came across AMA and spoke with Xios, the director of the school, that really inspired me to believe in myself, my goals and my dreams. I was so excited, thrilled and nervous all at the same time because I really didn't have much of a clue of what I was getting myself into. I told her that I always loved makeup and loved doing it on myself and even others, but just for fun. So, with so much going on in my life and all these changes, I decided that I was finally going to do something for myself for once that I was truly passionate about and I didn't know how I was going to pay for my schooling but I knew I would figure it out somehow. I visited their open house around Halloween 2015, as they were also having a Halloween bash with everyone fully dressed in costumes including full face makeup! I was nervous but so impressed all at once. I was introduced to some of the instructors and I also spoke to a few other students and everyone, and I mean every single one of them said the same thing - "you're never going to want to leave!!!" That was when I told myself this is it, I have to do this now and I'll do what it takes. A few months go by, and my first weekend class finallllly arrived! The first day was very intimidating for me because it was all new to me and I knew I didn't have any experience except really just on myself and family and friends doing makeup. When the pro team instructor spoke, Elle, this pint size beautiful girl, I couldn't believe the enthusiasm and passion she had as soon as she got in front of the class! Her knowledge with makeup, makeup and skincare products were out of this world and her techniques and skills were so amazing to me. Xios, the director spoke next and she was so positive and enlightening and everything about her, from style to looks to her drive and motivation and belief in the potential we all have to succeed was extremely inspiring. When the owner of the school, Jules, also a celebrity makeup artist for over 10 years, came to our class and spoke to us, her voice, her presence, her story and her positivity were SO contagious it gave me the chills. I cannot express all of the emotions and love I have for the AMA family because there's so many good things to say about them all that it would take me so long to type it all down! Lol. But seriously, although it was such a short period of time (5 weekends), I grew so attached to the students I had class with and Elle, Xios, Jules, Lauren and Andrea and everyone I came across at that school. The words that were spoken, "you're never going to want to leave" was far beyond the truth. Everytime 3pm hit, I was so sad to leave. They're such a welcoming group of people, and so talented, yet they make you feel like you can take over the world-- the makeup world or really anything in life you put your mind to. I want to continue my career as a makeup artist and I will certainly be back to take more courses, and YES, they will be at AMA|Hoboken!! I just want to express my gratitude and how blessed I feel to have had such an amazing experience and for making me feel like I can do it, I can live my dreams and when that thought in your mind tells you you cannot do it, you have to quickly change that negative thinking to yes you can do it, and you will figure it out and you have to just keep on going. What's so important that I learned from the school aside from the makeup skills, theory & techniques, is that you have to surround yourself with people who believe in you, who inspire you and who support you and your dreams, and even more importantly, that you have to believe in YOURSELF. I'm tearing up just writing this all but it's so true, and I really do look forward to being back in that room and be with the team again. XO! read less

With that being said, I wanted to start my makeup career somewhere that was going to lead me off in the right direction. The minute I walked into Artist Makeup Academy, (actually it might have been the second i saw the doors that had AMA written on them) I knew there was no other place that I would rather be. Xio and Juliette are two of the most inspiring and motivating people I have ever come across. With the drive and talent of these two, they are the absolute definition of “sister goals” (forever wishing I had a sister but #AMAfamily got me covered.) Since the first time I met both of them, they have always wanted the best for not only myself, but everyone and anyone around them. They’re the type of people that can make you feel like you’ve known them forever and it’s only been like 5 minutes. The business that they have created is just as amazing as they are, and you will learn that very quickly. Not only are they straightforward and honest with everything makeup related, but also business related, and that is EXTREMELY important to know. Juliette is my Makeup Crush Monday everyday and if you have ever been lucky enough to see her in action like I have, you can see how absolutely mesmerizing the art really is. (#bae) I was lucky enough to be in the day class that had a chance to see how every teacher worked and experience the different ways they taught. Elle was mainly my class's teacher and at first I was so nervous to show her my work, but after the first time she critiqued me, I couldn’t wait to see what she had to say. She was there to lift me up when I was frustrated or cheer me on when I was happiest. Looking at the difference between what I did the first day of school and the last day of school, is so bittersweet. It went by so quick and it is unreal how much I have learned. All in all, if you’re looking for a sign to go to this school, this is it! The way I do makeup is different, the way I talk to people is different, the way I think about things is different, it changed my life for the better, and it can change yours too. I couldn’t wait to go to school everyday and hated Thursdays because that meant that I had to wait 3 more days before we had another class. I started off not knowing anyone, to leaving with two of my very best friends. Everything about my experience was so positive, that when I say I am never leaving, I’m really not leaving. I've always loved makeup and I've been doing makeup for many years,but i wanted to expand myself and get certified. I Google searched "makeup schools" "ny makeup schools" "nj makeup schools" and of course there was a whole list of schools in the Tri-state area. I've researched all of them and I wanted to make sure that the makeup school I decided,will be the one for me. I visited ALL the other schools but, I didn't get the "This is the school" feeling. So I decided to check out AMA in hoboken because it was close to my house. I called and met the sweetest person, Beverly. The studio had 2 rooms (spacious to work) and was in all beautiful white. I told her that I work full time and wasn't sure about my schedule. She gave me the times and said that they can always work with me. I was sooo happy, that I gave 1/2 of my tuition that day... My 1st day of AMA (the day I met Juliette- the owner of AMA ). The day i met Jules I feel in love, you would too! The energy, the experience, the drive, especially the beauty that she brings, just energizes you! Courses-I love the makeup kit! Its like Christmas all over again. Getting brushes,foundations,eyeshadows, and more ALL in a cute black bag!I thought I knew makeup but they taught be A LOT! They were very patient and gave me great feedback. I went from taking an express course to the next and the next course. Room for Growth and Opportunity- After graduating, It didn't just end there. I was given an opportunity to be in a AMA promo where i met the beautiful and sweet Xiomara (the manager). The dedication and support that she has for AMA is just amazing. I was given an opportunity to help out in my very 1st AMA wedding. That day I met the ProTeam Girls and feel in love with them too! They are sooo talented and so humble. That day, all I knew was to work hard and work fast...it definitely paid off because thats when I became an #AMAProGirl 🙂 Since then I've done clients, weddings, NYFW, photoshoots,IMATS New York,and many more. To me, attending AMA isn't just about makeup... AMA is about growing, AMA is about building yourself, AMA is about creating lifelong friendships, AMA is about confidence, AMA is about working hard, AMA is not just about creating BEAUTY but to also STAY HUMBLE! I didnt want to leave because i wanted to learn more from these talented women of AMA. i met juliet probably 6yrs ago at another school she was working at. I loved her personality and she made me feel so confident and comfortable. Then 3 yrs ago thru a mutual friend. i heard she was opening a school. I visited other school, closer schools to wear i leave, but i didnt feel the same, something was telling me go to AMA. Then i visited AMA n i knew it was the school for me. I fell in love with it! It just felt right!! I felt at home. I believe God wanted me there it was the place for me and i knew i made the right decision cus i felt at peace. My teacher Elle is amazing and so so talented and so loving. Xio just inspires women to follow there dreams no matter wat anyone says. Juliet if it wasn't for you i wouldn't have pushed so hard. I cant even mention all the talented women i met there who took there time to come and teach us. If anyone is leaning towards another school or is stuck between AMA and another, i am telling you pick AMA! They aren’t just kidding when they say AMA FAMILY! Everyone at the academy makes you feel so welcomed and loved. The academy is against all negativity and bulling and all about success and passion ! Everyone is given the same opportunity and the teachers make sure to watch every single student and the way the progress throughout whichever program you are attending. Every single teacher at AMA wants to see you succeed. I saw that at other schools people come off as being fake nice and catty and don’t really care about benefiting you. But i can honestly say that the instructors at AMA are genuine and truly care. Not only are the teachers/ office girls amazing but Xio and Juliette! Two beautiful hard working women that are truly insirpirational. They both run AMA Hoboken and newest location in MIAMI!! I know how amazing is that! AMA REALLY does feel like a family . The teachers really do want to see you succeed I've learned so much already in this past month and have so much more to learn but I am so thankful for this class and all of the instructors they are amazing !!! I attended cosmetology school and it is nowhere compared to this school. I've never been so excited to go to school and learn more and more. if you want to learn makeup this is the exact place to be and I highly recommend taking these courses if you're interested in makeup. I can not say 1 negative thing about it. Not only are the instructors are amazing but the girls I have met are as well.
